Each of these organizations offer valuable tools and resources designed to educate, engage, and empower the community. Explore their resources today and take action to help preserve the wild places and species that make our region unique.

  • Alabama Coastal Foundation

    The Alabama Coastal Foundation (ACF) was founded in 1993 to improve and protect Alabama's coastal environment through cooperation, education, and participation. For the past three decades, ACF has promoted a culture where environmental decisions are based on an accurate understanding of the underlying science. They work with individuals, other nonprofit groups, as well as the public (local, state, and federal) and private (small business through big industry) sectors for the betterment of our coastal environment using an inclusive environmental stewardship approach.

  • Mobile Baykeeper

    Mobile Baykeeper exists to defend and revive the health of the waters of Coastal Alabama. They work towards real and measurable improvement in the health of the waters of Coastal Alabama. We’ll know they are successful when no one has to question whether the fish are safe to eat or the water is safe to swim in, when our seagrasses and oyster reefs recover, and our coastal communities take responsibility for the health of the water.

  • Alabama Wildlife Federation

    The Alabama Wildlife Federation (AWF) is the oldest and largest non-profit conservation organization in Alabama. The AWF was established by sportsmen in 1935 to promote the conservation and wise use of our wildlife and natural resources and to ensure a high quality of life for future generations of Alabamians. Their mission is to promote the conservation of Alabama's wildlife and related natural resources, as a basis for the social and economic prosperity of present and future generations, through wise use and responsible stewardship of our wildlife, forests, fish, soils, water, and air.

  • Mobile Bay National Estuary Program

    The Mobile Bay National Estuary Program (MBNEP) – the National Estuary Program (NEP) for all Coastal Alabama – has been a leader in restoring and protecting our coastal waters since its establishment in 1995. As part of the NEP, MBNEP is a collaborative, efficient, and adaptable organization dedicated to restoring and conserving Estuaries of National Significance.

  • Outdoor Alabama

    The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is an executive and administrative department of the State of Alabama created by statute. The Commissioner, appointed by the Governor as a member of the Cabinet, advises the Governor and Legislature on the management of freshwater fish, wildlife, marine resources, state lands, state parks, and other natural resources. The Department has four divisions: Marine Resources, State Lands, State Parks, and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.

  • Dauphin Island Sea Lab

    Founded in 1971 by the State of Alabama Legislature to maximize the marine sciences capabilities of several Alabama institutions and minimize duplication. Research programs range from biogeochemistry and oceanography to ecosystem ecology and ecotoxicology. While much of our research focuses on the near-shore and estuarine processes of the northern Gulf of Mexico, field sites of our internationally-renowned faculty also include the Arctic, Mexico, Australia, and other countries.

  • Ruffer Mountain

    Ruffner's story begins in 1977, when a grassroots community movement formed to create the Ruffner Mountain Nature Coalition. Their mission was clear: protect the mountain ecosystem and stop a land developer's plan to build an apartment complex on-site. As you can see today, their mission is an ongoing success, as countless species of flora and fauna thrive on the mountain and Ruffner continues to grow.
