Accessible Outdoors
In Fall 2024, the Mobile County Wildlife and Conservation Association (MCWCA) launched a new initiative aimed at improving accessibility and enhancing the outdoor experience for hunters across Alabama’s Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs).

Supporting Access, One Structure at a Time
The project’s mission is to assist in the maintenance and replacement of shooting houses on designated Alabama WMA lands—with a special focus on ensuring physically enabled access for all outdoor enthusiasts. Every individual deserves a safe, functional, and inclusive place to enjoy Alabama’s natural heritage.
Year One: A Strong Start in North Mobile County
In our first year, MCWCA members focused on shooting houses located on University of South Alabama Foundation property in North Mobile County. Our goal was straightforward but impactful: remove and replace one shooting house that had outlived its functionality.
The new structure was built locally in Mobile, AL, then carefully transported and assembled on-site—providing a safer, more accessible setup for hunters in the region.
What’s Next: Building on our success, we’re preparing to replace two more shooting houses in Fall 2025. With continued community support, we aim to expand this effort and bring greater accessibility to more WMAs across the state.
